Sarà il salotto! - This will be the sitting room!

Al piano terreno si trovava la vecchia fucina del fabbro che, negli anni, era stata trasformata in ricovero per le mucche e per i maiali.
Quando entrai per la prima volta fu naturale immaginare l'apertura originale della vecchia arcata (che in quella tipologia di case rurali prendeva ambedue i piani)trasformata in vetrata con panorama sulla vallata!

On the ground floor there was the smith's forge, now a cowshed.
When I stepped in for the first time I coundn't avoid imagining the original arch transformed into a magnificent big window on the valley!

Quante finestre! - So many windows!

La camera principale presentava veramente troppe aperture,considerate le dimensioni: due finestre e una porta finestra oltre,naturalmente, alla porta d'entrata!
Una volta decisa la disposizione dei mobili, recuperati da parenti e amici, mi sono divertita a verniciarli e a decorarli con un po' di découpage. Cosa ne dite?

The main bedroom was very difficult to furnish: it was quite small and it had two windows and two doors(one leading to the terrace). As soon as I decided where the furniture would go( everything was found in my relatives' or friends' attics), I enjoyed myself painting and decorating them with some easy découpage. What do you think about it?

La camera di Camilla - Camilla's bedroom

La prima camera ad essere vissuta fu la futura camera di Camilla che, in un primo momento fu adattata come cucina (potete ancora vedere i fori del paraschizzi e i tubi del lavello)! Avevamo infatti l'esigenza di rendere la casa abitabile il più presto possibile per poter controllare regolarmente i lavori senza dover tutte le volte soggiornare in hotel (viviamo a 250 km dalla nostra "avventura"!).Così adattammo il piano superiore (la futura zona notte) come piccolo appartamento, mentre, con calma, terminavamo il piano terra che sarebbe stato adibito a zona giorno.

The first room to be fitted was what was to become Camilla's bedroom, temporarily used as a kitchen! We live 250km far from the house we were restructuring and we regularly had to check the work done: in order to avoid expensive stays at the hotel, we first restrucured the first floor ( where the bedrooms and bathroom were ment)into a small flat while carrying the work on the grond floor to the end!



Quando, infine, il pian terreno fu pronto, ho potuto restituire alla stanza la sua destinazione originaria: la camera di Camilla.Ho recuperato tutto dalla soffitta di mia nonna: i due letti di ferro che ho dipinto con gli acrilici e ho decorato con un piccolo lavoro di découpage e il comodino che ha "subito"lo stesso trattamento.

When the ground floor was ready at last, I could restore the room to its original destination: it was to become Camilla's bedroom. I painted the furniture I found in my granny's attic: two iron beds and a night table that I decorated with some simple découpage!

Dopo un anno trascorso ad attendere la concessione edilizia (!?), dopo aver, fortunatamente, scelto un'impresa edile gestita da una persona del posto (che riuscì non solo a far misteriosamente sparire le mucche che venivano regolarmente a pascolare"dentro" casa nostra, ma si rivelò poi molto paziente, con me naturalmente, e molto bravo a lavorare la pietra!)i lavori iniziarono!

One year went by just waiting for permission! In the meanwhile we looked for a mason and we met a local guy who seemed to be very patient(with me of course!) and who later on also proved to be very skillfull with stonework!Works started at last!

Quella è casa nostra!? - Is that our house!?

Un mese dopo il compromesso era giunto il momento dell'uscita del numero di DOVE in cui veniva presentata la "nostra" casa (in realtà mancavano ancora due settimane al rogito!): Il tempo non passava più, il numero non usciva e io cominciai a temere che, con l'uscita della rivista si sarebbero presentate altre persone interessate all'acquisto e con molti più soldi di noi!

One month later the time had come when the issue of the travel magazine DOVE was due. We were supposed to wait two more weeks to make the house ours and I was so impatient that time seemed never to go by: I began to think that someone else could see the house in the magazine and would pay much more for it than we could afford!



Ma alla fine ecco l'articolo! "Il palazzo del fabbro" o, come scoprii leggendo l'articolo, la "ca' di balin" perchè ospitava la fucina del fabbro che fabbricava i pallini per andare a caccia.

Here it was at last! "The smith's manor house" or, as I got to know later when I read the article, the "ca' di balin" as it was called by the people living in the village.

Così, senza pensarci su troppo. - Don't worry, take it easy.

Fu la casa a parlare. Appena varcata la soglia di quello che al momento era una stalla( per lungo tempo non saremmo neppure riusciti a entrare in casa "nostra" senza dover scavalcare reti di letto che servivano a non far fuggire mucche, pecore ecc.che continuavano a pascolare da noi!)ho immaginato la vetrata che avrei potuto ricavare abbattendo il tamponamento che faceva da parete al porcile!

The house talked for itself. As soon as I got in ( I didn't know yet that getting in would always be very difficult even when the house was ours at last because of the cows and the sheeps!)I realized what an amazing view I could have if I could tear down the wall facing the pigsty!



Quando poi salimmo sulla terrazza scoprimmo una vista stupenda sulla valle e sulle colline di castagni e di conifere che portano lo sguardo verso il mare di Levanto e delle Cinque Terre. Non ebbi più dubbi: doveva essere mia!
Firmammo un compromesso, riprendemmo l'autostrada e tornammo a casa.

When we went upstairs and went out on the terrace we discovered a charming view over the valley, the hills leading towards the sea of Levanto and Cinque Terre. I had no doubts: it had to be mine!
We signed at the estate agency, drove to the motorway and went home.

La prima visita - The first visit

L'agente immobiliare che ci aveva accompagnato a visitare la casa in vendita non sembrava molto interessato a concludere l'affare... infatti parlò per tutto il tempo al cellulare!

The estate agent who was showing us the house for sale didn't look very interested to sell it...in fact he kept talking on the cell all the time!



L'unica cosa che si premurò di dire fu che la casa sarebbe presto apparsa su un numero della rivista DOVE. E così fu...

The only thing he told us was that the house would soon be showed on an issue of the Italian travel magazine DOVE. And so it happened...

La nostra avventura- Our adventure

Vorrei raccontarvi l'avventura che mio marito, mia figlia di 3 anni ( ora adolescente ormai) ed io abbiamo condiviso negli ultimi nove anni.
La foto che vedete ritrae un colpo di fulmine...non ci credete vero?

I'd like to tell you about the adventure my husband, my 3 years old daughter (now a teenager!) and I shared during the last nine years.
The picture you see shows our love at first sight...it's hard to believe, isn't it?
